How did she end here? In this place of bright lights and romantic atmosphere, people were laughing and blushing, dancing and teasing their dates. It wasn't the type of place that Tam would usually visit.
But, here she was. Standing to the side in the hall, staring at the people around her, wearing her Civil War styled dress. It was black and red, decorated with black gloves and a black metal tiara with red teardrop jewels hanging from it. Everyone seemed to be with a date except her. But that was okay. She had someone coming.
She hoped.
The fairy had been nervous walking into the ball. She had never been to something like this, especially since it was romantic. Heck, she'd never even had a Valentine before. She had stood outside the hall for half an hour before entering.
"I can't do this," she had murmured. "I can't go in there. All those people, all that romance, no no no, I can't. No puedo verlos de nuevo, no después de lo que he hecho."
The short redhead had sighed and mumbled to herself until she finally gathered up the courage to enter the event. And of course, most of the Academy was there. Meaning most of the people there hated her. It had made her break out in a sweat which threatened to remove her perfectly put on make up and make it run down her face.
It had been awkward as she'd kept her back to the wall, sidestepping slowly until she had crossed the room. It was loud; the music and chatter seemed to be battling for the loudest noise. At least it drowned out the thoughts in Tam's head. No one would want to deal with wiping blood off the floor. Not that anyone would anyway.
And now, here she stood, feeling very alone as she was passed by happy couples, some paired up just for this dance, some couples from before. No one had even looked at Tam yet, or if they had, she hadn't noticed.
With another sigh, she waved her hand and muttered a spell in Latin. A bar of Dairy Milk Caramel appeared in her gloved hand, which she ate gratefully. She now had a small addiction to caramel, since it calmed her down with its sweet taste and smooth texture . . . Tam quickly made another and ate it in half the time of the first.
As she watched the happiness around her, the fairy went deep into thought. She thought about if she'd ever find happiness, or someone she could be happy with. How would that ever happen to her of all people? How could she ever be happy?
It was as impossible as trying to fly to the sun without burning.
