Happiness.
[hap-ee-nis]
Noun
1. The quality or state of being happy.
2. Good fortune; pleasure; contentment; joy.
Indeed, someone was very happy in Alegra.
As usual, Tam was on her own. She had on her dark make-up, her darker side bag and her darkest clothes. Blacks and red, just like her hair. And you know what? That's the way she liked it.
The brightest thing about her was her eye. Just the one, of course. The newly blinded one - it was a light blue, a colour that Tam adored even if she'd never admit it. It was the same colour as her father's eyes, which she loved even more, as she had longed to have his colour eyes since- well, as long as she could remember. No one really knew the story behind why it as blue and blind yet, mostly because no one had bothered to ask. She didn't mind; she was used to people not giving a damn. She was, after all, what you'd call a bitch.
But she didn't seem like a bitch. Sure, the dark clothes might scare some people, but she had a wide smile plastered on her dark lips for a change. The fairy just couldn't help it. She had tried to stop grinning, but it always seemed to come back. Why was she in a good mood?
Well; everyone just had those days, didn't they?
The redhead was acting out of character as well. She was in Alegra to shop. To shop. Since when did she go shopping?
She walked into a book store, giving a brief smile to the cashier. Her heavy Doc Martens clunked to the back of the rectangular store, where she looked at every book she could. Usually, she didn't read because she didn't like the silence that usually came with it, and without it she couldn't concentrate on it. But lately, she'd been reading more and more, being able to drown out the silence that meant she was alone.
Oh, there were so many books to choose from! Her delicate but strong hands traced the spines lovingly, pulling out one every now and again to read the blurb, then putting it back. This went on for a while until she had gone around the small store twice. How long was it? An hour? An hour and a half? She didn't really care.
When she was done, she picked out all the books she liked the sound of and paid for them. With her father making money as a teacher, she had a lot more cash for buying luxuries like books than she used to. The Nights had always been quite poor, so being able to walk into the first store and buying whatever she wanted without worrying about how much it was was a lovely and alien thing to the teenager.
Tam walked back outside, feeling the cold air swirl past her face. It blew her long, red and black hair back off her face, showing off her face to the few people who were up this early. She stopped and let it brush over her whole body, feeling it race past her like she was an unimportant specimen in this universe - which she was, if you thought about it - and tilted her head back in delight. Her eyes stared at the sky, as thought checking to see if something had changed. But it was the same grey clouds that told her she could expect snow once again.
She carried on walking a little bit until she got to the edge of town. Feeling a little lost, she looked at the forest which separated her from Scream Academy and wondered what she could do now. She wasn't expecting to meet with anyone; heck, she didn't have any plans for the next twenty years, especially not with people! She didn't have classes; and if she did, she'd probably skip on a few, since she didn't really want to see anyone in either of her classes.
What could she do other than take a stroll and see where she came out? Which didn't sound like a good idea; you could never be sure of what was lurking in the depths of this world.
