"First came knowledge. He knew almost immediately that it wasn't his father he'd sensed. Yes, Kalona was powerful, and he had long allied himself with Darkness, but the disturbance this immortal was making in he world was different; it was far more powerful."
Well, Victor had to entertain himself`somehow. The book was the sixth one in the series, and it was called Burned. It was a series aimed at teenage girls (possibly silly, desperate-for-love teenage girls), but it killed time.
The bookstore was deserted most of the time. The occasional customer would wander in, then wander back out. He had to do something while keeping the shop open, and what could look better than a bookshop owner reading? Not to mention it wouldn't hurt his chances with finding someone who liked guys who read. Hey, even someone who liked being on their own (like Victor) would get lonely once in a while.
He was perched on the edge of his stool behind the counter. The black book rested in one hand while his other lay flat on the surface, completely motionless. The green haired man smiled at how he imagined Kayla would be in this situation. His sister would surely be tapping her fingers, or doing handstands, or pacing. Pausing his reading, Victor wondered for the millionth time if she had ADHD. Strange child.
He gave a short, low laugh and put the book down. His eyes closed as he smiled, waiting for someone to need his assistance.
